High Altitude Fun. Snow & Mud. Crowds & Serenity. There's gotta be millions of SUV owners in Southern California, but fortunately for us none of them really ever take their vehicles off road. We enjoyed beautiful scenery and untouched snow while encountering less than 10 other vehicles on the back roads of Big Bear during our 2 day adventure. Oh yeah, they were crammed into the local snow parks.
Calico seems to be a popular destination for OHV's. The lower campground is dirt bike friendly, allowing bikers to ride directly from the campground to various destinations. There are a few cabins available for rent, equipped with air conditioning, kitchen, bathroom and shower (all very nice to have when you are surrounded by dirt and hot air... The Ghost town is very nice with shops and places to eat. The attractions are reasonably priced too.
